Multiple Sclerosis is a global disease and we wanted to raise money to help empower people all around the world to run MS Brain Health projects.
Projects may be run by clinics, by country-specific MS Societies, or by patient organisations. When someone applies to the RideCanada4MS fund, we want the process to be fair, fast, and streamlined. If you have an MS Brain Health project that needs support, please get in touch.
What we didn't want to do was raise the money for just one charity. This is why we chose to partner with The Brain Health Centre of the Rockies - www.brainhealthcr.org - a specialist non-profit founded by a neurologist and his wife, with the goal of avoiding the limitations of single-charity fundraising. Spot-focused MS fundraising of this kind can lead to inequality in access to care.
To ensure openness and transparency, and to guarantee that every penny raised goes to MS Brain Health projects worldwide, a dedicated advisory committee has been established. This committee will vet applications, support applicants as needed, and account for all expenditures.
The committee members are entirely voluntary, and no money is taken for running costs except for the absolute minimum required. There is no organisation to maintain, nor are there wage bills to be paid. We feel strongly about avoiding the inevitable bloat that can occur with some charities, and we aim to prevent that here.
